Economic Conditions and Trends of the Walt Disney Company

With the economy remaining The Walt Disney Company's largest threat, the recent turmoil in the financial markets has adversely affected the economic activity in the United States and other regions of the world in which Disney conducts business, and has affected demand for some of Disney's products and services. A continued decline in economic activity could adversely affect demand for any of their businesses, thus reducing their overall revenue and earnings. A sustained decline in economic conditions could reduce attendance and spending at one or more of Disney's parks and resorts, purchase of or prices for advertising on broadcast or cable networks or owned stations, prices that Cable Service Providers will pay for cable programming, performance of their theatrical and home entertainment releases, and purchases of Company-branded consumer products. These conditions could also impair the ability of those with whatever Disney business to satisfy their obligations to Disney.

Changes in exchange rates for foreign currencies may also reduce international demand for their products, increase the labor or supply costs in non-United States markets, or reduce the United States dollar value of revenue received from other markets.

Cultural and social values and trends

Each of Disney's businesses creates entertainment or consumer products which success depends substantively on consumer tastes and preferences that change in often unpredictable ways. The success of their businesses depends on their ability to consistently create and distribute filmed entertainment, broadcast and cable programming, online material, electronic games, theme park attractions, hotels and other resort facilities and consumer products that meet the changing preferences of the broad consumer market . Many of Disney's businesses increasingly depend on worldwide acceptance of their offerings and products outside the United States, and the success of these offers therefore depends on Disney's ability to successfully predict and adapt to changing consumer tastes and preferences outside as well as inside the United States.

For example:

  • The success of Disney's offerings in the home entertainment market depends in part on consumer preferences with respect to home entertainment formats, including DVD players and personal video recorders, as well as the availability of alternative home entertainment offerings and technologies, including web-based delivery of entertainment offerings.
  • Technological developments offer consumers an expanding array of entertainment options and if consumers prefer options that Disney has not yet fully developed rather than the entertainment products they do offer, their sales may be adversely affected.

Political and legal issues

The success of Disney's businesses is highly dependent on maintenance of intellectual property rights in the entertainment products and services they create. New technologies such as the convergence of computing, communication and entertainment devices, the falling prices of devices incorporating such technologies, and increased broadband internet speed and penetration have made the unauthorized digital copying and distribution of their films, television productions and other creative works easier and faster and enforcement of intellectual property rights more challenging. The unauthorized use of intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry is a significant and rapidly growing phenomenon. These developments require Disney to devote substantial resources to protect their intellectual property against unauthorized use and present the risk of increased losses of revenue as a result of unauthorized digital distribution of their content and sales of unauthorized DVDs and other counterfeit products.

8 Spring / Summer Women's Fashion Trends You Will Fall In Love With

Spring is here, which means summer is right around the corner. So, how does that affect our wardrobes? Getting dressed during the time of year when it is not that hot anymore – but not chilly either can be quite tricky. However, a few key pieces can smoothen the transition – and maintain your comfort level on cold mornings as well as warm afternoon.

According to last year's preemptive runways, we will be looking at a season filled with delicate pastel shades, whimsical frills, lots of plastic, among others. Let's take a look at the top 8 spring / summer women's fashion trends that you are sure to fall in love with.

1.P astels
Hardly unfashionable, but generally overshadowed by their Crayola counterparts, sherbet shades are making a major comeback this summer. And instead of accessorizing or accenting a look with just one piece, the runways have verified the power of head-to-toe pastels. Whether pink, lemon, or lilac, you can expect to see a range of fashion's prettiest shades this season.

2. T-Shirt Dresses
A T-shirt dress is an ideal wear for the in-between weather because it acts as a perfect layering piece. It is light enough to wear under sweaters and jackets, and also looks fantastic on its own. There's no better way to kick-start your spring day than by throwing on a casual t-shirt dress and pairing it with your favorite accessories. This clothing item has become a versatile go-to wardrobe that must easily earn style points, regardless of the occasion.

3. Maxi Skirts
Tights are so last month, but it is still a little cold for a mini skirt. However, a skirt with a longer hemline, such as a ruffled maxi, will prevent your legs from getting exposed to chilly winds (and also acts as a good cover-up if you just have not gotten the time to get a tan yet). You can easily pair a maxi skirt with a plain T-shirt and suede or faux leather jacket.

4. Power Shorts
Ah, shorts! So basic, so bland. Simply hiding in the back of the drawer just to be pulled out for a lazy Sunday night. Or so you thought. The spring / summer fashion trends for 2018 have already experienced a rise in the Statement Shorts. St. Laurent's high-waisted leather shorts and Louise Vuitton's silky boxer-style shorts, along with an array of other tailored power shorts are something to look forward to this season.

5. Embroidered Tops
An embroidered top with a little cold shoulder action going on can instantly update everything in your closet, from jeans to skirts. Plus, it makes an excellent layering item under jackets and sweaters.

6. Checks
When we think of checks, winter comes to mind. This year, however, checks are everywhere. Whether they are neutral, pastel or punchy, if your wardrobe has anything in the geometric print, then rock it today while it is trendy. You can find simple ginghams at Loewe, while blue plaid shirts at Alexander McQueen, and bag checks outfits at Mary Katrantzou, along with an array of other designs at Fendi, including checked tights.

7. Satin
During the London shows, satin was the most prominent fabric for two whole seasons. First and foremost, its sheen immediately accentuates any silhouette; and second, its innate lightness and fluidity make it an incredibly comfortable option to wear throughout the night. Designers from Roksanda and Chris Kane opted for liquid evening dresses and gowns.

8. Jumpsuit
Whenever it is one of those lazy mornings, a jumpsuit is your best friend. That's because it is a one-stop shopping – you just need to put it on and voila! You are all set to go. Plus, they are polished enough for work and at the same time casual enough for regular events. With so many options featuring minimalist styles, bold prints, menswear-inspired tailoring, and much more, there is a jumpsuit for practically every occasion, from work and travel, to even black-tie events.

So there you have it – 8 trendy and stand-out fashion options that will likely have a big impact on your wardrobe choices this season. Get ready for spring with a killer closet!
